VALERIE ALLEN
Valerie Allen is an Associate Professor in the English Department. She received her B.A. and Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin, and taught at University College Dublin, University of Stirling, Scotland, and University of South Florida before joining John Jay in 1999. Her specialisms are medieval culture and literature, and continental philosophy. Her publications include essays on philosophers Emmanuel Levinas, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Martin Heidegger. She has edited an anthology of essays on Geoffrey Chaucer (1997), has published On Farting: Language and Laughter in the Middle Ages (Palgrave, 2006), and has written a long chapter on the history of Middle English literature in English Literature in Context (Cambridge University Press, 2007).
