MARK McBETH


Mark McBeth, Associate Professor, received his Ph.D. in English -- Composition and Rhetoric from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. From 1992 to the Fall 2002, he worked at City College where he acted consecutively as Composition Program Coordinator, Assistant Director of Composition and, finally, Director of the Writing Center.

His scholarship explores a variety of linguistic and pedagogical issues including the theories of writing, gay urban vernacular, and the history of education. His book, Teacher Training at Cambridge: The Initiatives of Oscar Browning and Elizabeth Hughes (London: Woburn Press, 2004), co-authored with Dr. Pam Hirsch of Newnham College, Cambridge, takes a historical look at nineteenth-century British teacher training.
