SUGGS
Jon-Christian Suggs is a former chair of the department and is emeritus professor of English here and in the doctoral faculty in English at CUNY's Graduate Center. He is the author of articles and essays on African American literature, proletarian literature and literary theory, and on pedagogy. He is the author of American Proletarian Culture: the Twenties and the Thirties (1993) and Whispered Consolations: Law and Narrative in African American Life (2000). He still teaches a course every now and then and he has two books in the works and essays on W. E. B. Du Bois and on African American literature and the law coming out in 2008.
