PowerPoint Speech - Using the PowerPoint application to present ideas in a visual presentation of one credible web site (Length - 3 minutes)

Instructions:

This brief presentation will allow you to practice using the Microsoft PowerPoint application to present informational on a credible web site in a visual format. Follow these instructions:
1. Find a website using the Webbies as a source. According to the website the Webbies is: "the leading international award honoring excellence in Web design, creativity, usability and functionality." After connecting with the link above, investigate several websites in the following categories. Only websites from these categories will be accepted for this assignment --

Activism - Charitable Org & Nonprofits - Cultural Institutions - Government - Health - Law - Magazine - News - Newspaper - Politics - Science - Student
2. Investigate the entire web site and whether it is credible. Go to the web site's linked pages; observe the visuals and read the text. Find out who developed the site and if it has been updated recently. See what other web sites this one links to. Determine why you think this web site is credible. What clues can you find that leads you to think that the information in this web site can be used in a college-level presentation?
3. Make note of what you find interesting about the web site you've chosen. Do you like the visuals? The layout? The presentation of arguments and facts? The way it is written? The extent (thoroughness) of the information presented?
4. Develop a speech into an outline with three main points which informs your audience about this web site and its ideas. You must focus on the ideas that are presented in the website. Use the following organization --:
  • I. Overall goal or mission of the web site - no visual aid.
  • II. What does the website look like? W/ visual aid
  • III. Why you think this web site is interesting. You could also discuss why you feel it is credible - usable in a college course. Or tell us why you like the design and ease of navigation No visual aid
NOTE: This speech must be in an outline form and delivered from "speaker's cards" as instructed. The best speeches will show a linkage between the main points and express that linkage (thesis) at the beginning of the speech. As before, put your outline onto cards.
