Monica Ciobanu
has been teaching at John Jay College since the Fall of 1999. She has taught
various courses such as Introduction to Sociology, Women in American Society and
Theories of Social Order.
She earned her
BA degree in sociology at the University of Bucharest, Romania in 1993 and an
MA in Gender Studies at the New School University, New York in 1997.
Currently, she is a PhD
candidate in sociology at the New School where she is conducting doctoral
research on issues of democratic transition and consolidation in post-communist
Eastern Europe.
Ms. Ciobanu’s
areas of interest are: political sociology, social theory, historical
sociology, and comparative politics. She is affiliated with the Transregional
Center of Democratic Studies, New School University.
