What is e-Training?

What is e-Training? "e-Training" describes courses that you can take via the web, at any networked computer, at any time.  Online training courses, such as those offered by MySkillSource, allow you to learn at convenient times and places.
Who will benefit most from online learning?
  • Those who wish to learn at their own pace.
  • Those who learn through visually-presented information.
  • Those whose schedules don't permit them to attend scheduled Instructional Technology Support Services and Human Resources training sessions.

For those who prefer to learn by interacting with people, instructor-led sessions may be a more effective way to learn.

What is
MySkillSource
MySkillSource is Element K training offered by Enterprise Solutions.  Element K training was chosen as the web-based training for the Boston Consortium of Higher Education, which includes Tufts, MIT, Harvard, and many other institutions
What kinds of courses are available?  MySkillSource offers both self-paced courses and instructor-led courses.  Self-paced courses can be taken at any time, and you can decide whether to complete all or part of a course.  Self-paced courses are marked with this icon:

Instructor-led courses are offered over a specific period of weeks, and may not be available at the moment you wish to learn.  These courses are led by a human instructor, require you to purchase a textbook, contain assigned readings and exercises that you must complete, and feature lots of interaction with the instructor and other students in a threaded discussion environment.  Expect to spend 8-10 hours per week completing the coursework in an instructor-led online course.  You can take an Instructor-led courses as a full student or as an auditor.  Instructor-led courses are marked with this icon:

  • After you find books containing the information that you want, you can browse the results of your search and bookmark specific pages for later reference.
Will Instructional Technology Support Services charge my department for this web-based learning program? Instructional Technology Support Services will cover all charges associated with your web-based learning with funding provided by Vice President Robert Pignatello, Office of Academic Administrative affairs.  This means that your learning is free to you and your department!
