CISCO CERTIFIED NETWORKING ACADEMY AT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

 

Instructional Technology Support Services is pleased to announce the establishment of the Cisco Networking Academy at John Jay College. The following courses are offered:

 

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Fundamentals of Network Security (Fall 2004)
  • Fundamentals of Wireless Networks (Fall 2004)

 

Cisco Certified Network Associate

 

This four course program is designed to teach you the skills needed to design, build and maintain small to medium sized networks. This entry level course will provide you with the opportunity to enter the workforce and/or further your education and training in the computer networking field. Four semesters of instruction, followed by the appropriate Sylvan exam, are required for the CCNA certificate. According to Cisco Systems, Inc., there are more than 800,000 worldwide job vacancies for people with networking skills.

 

The Cisco Certified Network Associate training program is comprised of 4 courses equaling 280 total hours of instruction and is typically completed within one year. All courses are taught by Cisco Certified Instructors. The online portion of the curriculum is divided into eight 70 hour blocks of study which accounts for an additional 560 hours, and is available to students anytime, anywhere. Additionally, the program utilizes web-based content, student performance tracking, hands on labs, and instructor training and support. The student will develop a basic foundation in networking, theory, routers, switched, wan, and LAN.  Through hands on use of Cisco equipment students gain a broad based knowledge of network operations, an understanding of the differences in network products, and how to design and troubleshoot networks among other general topics. Upon completion the student will be eligible to take the Cisco Networking Academy Certification. No prerequisites for enrollment.
