John Jay College and Instructional Technology Support Services
are pleased to announce the establishment
of a Cisco Network Academy. This
Academy will offer courses in internetworking design and implementation,
security, and wireless networks. This is a non-credit professional training
program offered to the John Jay
community and the general public.
Beginning in October, ITSS will offer the first and second semester of the
Cisco Certified Network Associate
training CCNA 1 Network Basics. The first
course, Network Basics, introduces the student to the fundamentals
of networking
encompassing such topics as Ethernet technologies, TCP/IP, network media, IP
addressing,
and routing. The second course, Routers and Router Basics, focuses
on initial router configuration, Cisco IOS
software management, routing protocol
configuration, TCP/IP, and access control lists (ACLs). Students will
develop
the skills on how to configure a router, manage Cisco ISO software, configure
routing protocols, and
create access lists controlling access to the router. (cisco.com)
The course consists of online study materials,
hands-on labs, and
demonstrations, comprising 70 hours of instruction. Semesters are to be finished
sequentially, and the student must successfully complete one semester before
proceeding to the next.
The complete CCNA course of study consists of four semesters:
CCNA 1 Network Basics
CCNA 2 Router and Routing
Basics
CCNA 3 Switches Basics and
Intermediate Routing
CCNA 4 Wan Technologies
Through the four semesters of training, students will have significant hands-on
training in the configuration
of Cisco equipment. This training coupled with the
online study material provides the successful candidate
with the basis for a
career in internetworking.
