Addiction Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice

NYS Education and Training Provider Number 0421

Are you interested in the field of alcoholism and substance abuse? Positions in alcoholism and substance abuse counseling are available throughout New York City.  Completion of the education and training often is sufficient to obtain an entry-level position in this field.

You can complete the education and training requirements for the Credential in Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (CASAC) while attending John Jay College.  For each addiction studies course you receive both academic credit and specialized training, which counts for educational requirements of the CASAC.  Upon completion of the education requirements at John Jay College, you are eligible for a CASAC Trainee certificate issued by New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. The addiction studies program also offers a minor in addiction studies.   Education and training in this area is useful in all of the helping professions and most criminal justice careers.  Having this minor can enhance your chances of acceptance in advanced degree Programs and obtaining positions in these areas.

You can also take the addiction studies courses as a non-degree student.  Application for admission as a non-degree student can be made at the admissions office at 445 W. 59th St.

All courses needed for the CASAC will be offered in the academic year.  Some courses will be offered both in day and evening; but all will available in the evening.

Please attend our Open House, which will answer questions you have about the Addiction Studies Program, the CASAC, and a career in substance abuse counseling.

CHECK THE JOHN JAY COLLEGE WEB PAGE FOR TIME AND DATE.

There will be one held in October and one in March.
