Amie A. Macdonald is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at John Jay College/City University of New York where she teaches courses in political philosophy, multicultural feminism, and the philosophy of law.  Professor Macdonald earned her B.A. at Hamilton College, and her M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  She has published essays and delivered public lectures on the impact of nationalism, feminism, and racial identity in higher education.  Professor Macdonald is the co-editor, with Professor Susan Sánchez-Casal, of a new anti-racist feminist anthology entitled 21st Century Feminist Classrooms: Pedagogies of Identity and Difference, Palgrave/St.Martin's Press, 2002. 

 

At John Jay I teach Introduction to Philosophy (Philosophy 231), Ethics and Law (Philosophy 310), and a variety of other courses that are cross-listed with the Women's Studies Program, the Justice Studies Program, and the Department of Thematic Studies.  My courses are student-centered and focused on developing and refining the intellectual skills of writing, thinking, reasoning, and speaking.
