Professor Chávez-Arvizo is author of Triptych on the Soul: Aristotle, Descartes, Nagel; several journal articles on Descartes; and editor of Descartes: Key Philosophical Writings. He is currently on research leave, thanks to a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, working on a full-length book on Descartes’ doctrine of the substantial union of mind and body. His fields of specialization are Descartes, Early Modern Philosophy, Applied Ethics, Philosophy of Law, and Philosophy of Mind. His areas of competence are Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Mill, and Formal Logic. He is Deputy Chair of the Department of Art, Music and Philosophy.
