Jacoby Adeshei Carter is a
lecturer in Philosophy at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Jacoby earned
his M.A. in Philosophy from Purdue University and his B.A. from Wilberforce University in Political Science. He is currently A.B.D. pursuing his Ph.D. in
Philosophy at Purdue University. He is currently working on his dissertation entitled Social Inquiry: A
Deweyean Analysis of Just War Explanations of Terrorism. Jacoby’s research
interests include social and political philosophy, value theory (ethics), and
pragmatism. More narrowly, his interests include normative and applied ethical
theory, in particular environmental philosophy, and animal ethics. Jacoby is
also interested in contemporary philosophical discussions of war and terrorism,
as well as race theory.
Here at John Jay, Jacoby
teaches Phi105 (“Critical thinking and Informal Logic”) and Phi 231
("Philosophical Method and Its Applications,”) the introductory philosophy
course.
