I have B.A. and M.Phil degrees in art history from C.U.N.Y
and am completing my Ph.D. from the same institution. I have also studied at Vassar
College, Columbia
University, Institute
of Fine Arts, Univeristé
Laval, Quebec, as well as the
Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program. Apart from my
teaching and scholarship, I am an independent curator and art critic and a
corresponding editor for Art Nexus,
Miami/Bogota; correspondent for Flash
Art, Milan; and a contributor
to Contemporary, London.
Apart from teaching at John Jay College, I have been a visiting curator/critic
at Ewha University, Seoul, South Korea; Samszie Space, Seoul, South Korea;
Royal College of Art, London, UK; University of Tampere, Tampere, Finland;
FRAME, Helsinki, Finland; the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto,
Canada, Museo de arte contemporaneo, Oaxaca, and Galeria Quetzalli, Oaxaca,
Mexico. I have published over 150 articles on contemporary art in books, museum
and gallery exhibition catalogs as well as in journals and magazines including TRANS,
Zingmagazine, Estilo, Journal of the West, Tema
Celeste, Art/Culture Seoul, Bridge,
[Art Notes], Framework: the Finnish Art Review, and the L.A. Times. I am also the host of the talk show Art after Dark, which was recently
launched at the DIVA Digital and Video Art Fair in NYC and is produced by the
Artist Network, NYC. Taped segments are being edited in Germany
which will then be pitched to the European TV channel Arte in 2007.
