DISSERTATION PROPOSAL

Only IRB and Mentor approved dissertation proposals may come before the Criminal Justice Doctoral Executive Committee for review.

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES

  1. Submit proposals for IRB approval. For expedited review, applications should be submitted to Associate Provost Lawrence Kobilinsky John Jay College room 634T. You should address any questions about dates to this Dr. Kobilinsky's office, 212-2378884.
  2. Make sure the doctoral program office has a list of your Dissertation Committee members.*
  3. Make sure that the Doctoral program Office has a copy of your IRB approvals and a copy of the certificate showing that you have taken the on line training course recommended by The Graduate Center.
  4. Have your mentor notify the Doctoral Program Office that your dissertation proposal has passed IRB review and is ready to be reviewed by the Executive Committee.
  5. Send each member of the Executive Committee your dissertation proposal by the date noted above. Reminders of these dates will be listed on the program's web page. Proposals should be e-mail as file attachments. Please use Microsoft WORD for all Executive Committee.
  6. Email a copy of your dissertation proposal together with the IRB approval letter to the doctoral program office by the deadline date.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: If any member of your Dissertation Committee also serves on the Executive Committee contact me and I will arrange for substitute doctoral faculty members to review your proposal. If either of the student representatives is unable to attend the meeting that student should arrange for a substitute. Make sure that the substitute member(s) has a copy of the proposal.
