AULI ANNELI EK
Auli Ek received her M.A. degree from the University of Helsinki and Ph.D. from the University of California Santa Barbara. Her research interests include African American literature and film, Chicano/a literature, women's literature, and interdisciplinary approaches to race, gender, class, and sexuality in contemporary American cultural texts. Her book, Race and Masculinity in Contemporary American Prison Narratives (Routledge 2005), offers an interdisciplinary analysis of how contemporary American prison narratives reflect and produce ideologies of racialized masculinity and criminality in the United States. She currently researches the representations of Latina/o experience of imprisonment and the effects of incarceration on Latina/o families and communities. Her other passions include detective fiction and Law & Order .
