Grammar Explanation

•  Use BE before the present participle (-ing) forms of verbs.
  • Example: The police officer is interviewing the suspect.
•  Use BE before past participle forms of verbs when writing sentences in the passive.
  • Example: The defendant was acquitted.
•  Use HAVE before past participle forms of verbs when writing sentences in the perfect tenses.
  • Example:  Maria has known José for a long time.
•  Use auxiliaries, such as do, or modals, such as would, before the base form of the verb to make questions.
  • Example:  Why didn't Maribel come to the party yesterday?
