Forensic Commuting
John Jay is in mid-town Manhattan, near the southwest corner of Central Park or Columbus Circle. This places it just about in the middle of the New York metropolitan region. As a result of its central location and ease of access, students reside and commute from a broad radius around the city.
John Jay Grad Students Live Throughout the New York Region
Columbus Circle is served by the 1, A, B, C and D subway lines, which makes it is easy to get to and from either Penn Station or Grand Central. You can also walk a block further to 7th Avenue to catch the N, R, Q or W subway lines. The immediate John Jay neighborhood is served by the M10, M11, M31, M57, and M104 buses. There are also express buses that run between The Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn and Manhattan. Because of express trains and buses, sometimes further is faster.
Many students, however, live close enough to walk to the college in Hell's Kitchen (the traditional name of John Jay's neighborhood), or the Upper West Side. If you want to ride your bike to school, the college provides secure bike racks.
Likewise, a surprising number of students drive to the college, especially from New Jersey and north of the city, as the college is located close to the Lincoln Tunnel and the end of the West Side Highway at 57th Street. There is ample nearby parking with special rates for John Jay students.
