FCM Course and Curricular Notes for Fall 2009

Internship Alert!

If you expect to do your internship in Fall 2009 or Spring 2010, please see Professor Lovely ASAP to talk about prospects (he will be on sabbatical in the Fall)

  • FCM785 Management of a Digital Forensics Lab Gain experience and learn a ton by working with Professor Khan to run the FCM Lab. Along with practical experience, you gain course credit and will study the myriad issues related to the organization and management of a cyberlab. Please see Professor Lovely if you are interested.

  • CRJ727, Cybercriminology. CRJ727 will be next offered in Spring 2010, as Professor Lovely will be on sabbatical for the Fall semester. The course will only be offered in Spring 2010 in the 2009/2010 academic year. It is scheduled for Wednesday evening from 6:20-8:20.

  • CRJ/FCM752, Law and High Technology Crime. This is now the required course in the FCM program of study, replacing CRJ708.

    • Students who entered the program prior to Fall 2008 are entitled to use the graduation requirements that were in effect upon their matriculation to the program or follow the more current requirements. New students who entered the program in Fall 2008 and thereafter need to take FCM752 and not CRJ708, albeit the latter is available as an elective. Students who entered prior to Fall 2008 may take the new course as a substitute for CRJ708 but are still entitled to use CRJ708 for their required evidence course.

  • No seats in CRJ710? What to do?

  • If you try to register for CRJ710 or FCM752 and find no seats available don't panic. Just go to the Graduate Studies Office to see Anila Duro. Advise her you are an FCM student and request an overtally form. This only works CRJ710 and FCM752, however, and you should only need to do this as a new student. Later you are expected to fend for yourself to register online in time to grab a seat. They only cut FCM students a break because these are required courses in the FCM course of study.

  • FCM780 - Fieldwork for Fall 2009. Professor Lovely, who typically handles fieldwork placements and supervision, will be on the second half of his sabbatical for the Fall 2009 semester. If you want to do your fieldwork in Fall 2009 or Spring 2010, see him now. He will work on placement now and arrange for faculty supervision in the Fall.
