Fire Science 296: Managing Emergency Incidents
This program is designed around the National Incident Management System (NIMS) as recommended by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Areas to be covered include NIMS overview, structure, and staffing; effective resource management; event/incident planning; logistics and finance; and will provide procedures for the effective management of structural and high-rise fires, emergency medical incidents, structural collapse, weapons of mass destruction/ terrorist attacks, and other large-scale incidents. The National Response Plan [NRP] and the integration of National Incident Management System [NIMS] into it will also be discussed.
The student will discuss the theory behind NIMS, as well as, practical applications based on scenarios developed by the instructor and actual events over the past decade.
