The Department of Foreign Languages &
Literatures offers a range of courses that provide students the
opportunity to develop or expand their knowledge of foreign cultures
and their foreign or second language skills. Various languages and
literature courses are scheduled each term, giving the student
leeway in choosing a program that meets particular needs and
interest. The
Department also offers literatures in translation and a career
oriented sequence in Court
Interpreting and Translation. Spanish and Russian classes
emphasize the career interest of the student by concentrating on the
linguistic and cultural situations that are likely to occur in law
enforcement and related fields. Bilingual-bicultural
students can further their knowledge Hispanic and Russian culture
and language in courses especially designed to develop or increase
their reading and writing skills.
Faculty in the Department include
language and literature specialists and federally certified court
interpreters/translators
who can advise students how to complement their minor. A
minor can start you on your way to cultural and linguistic fluency
in one of the major languages in the world.
Spanish is the second language here in the United
States.
Work opportunities and opportunities for personal cultural
enrichment are greater for the students
equipped with foreign languages in their progress towards academic
and professional achievements.
