History Courses and the Curriculum.
A. Requirements: History 231 and History 232 are the basic introductory survey courses on the origins and development of world civilizations in the historical period that has lasted some 6,000 years up to the present. History 231 deals with the earlier period, that is, from the Neolithic period up through the 18th century, while History 232 treats the events and ideas from the 18th century to the present.
The College requirements served by each course are as follows:
History 231:
satisfies the 3-credit requirement for the associate degree
satisfies half of the 6-credit requirement for the baccalaureate degree
is a prerequisite for History 232
must follow or accompany the English 101 course
History 232:
satisfies the other half of the 6-credit requirement for the baccalaureate degree
must be preceded by History 231
B. Electives: While the following courses may be taken for purposes of accumulating credits, some of them, as indicated, satisfy the various requirements or recommendations for several baccalaureate majors:
History 201 and 202-----required for students majoring in the Government track of the GOV and PAD major.
History 214-----recommended cognate course for students majoring in DEV BEHAV and SOC CONTROL major.
-----recommended concentration course for students in CRIMINAL JUSTICE major.
History 217-----recommended cognate course for POLICE SCIENCE major.
History 219-----recommended concentration course for CRIMINAL JUSTICE major.
-----recommended cognate course for FIRE SCIENCE major.
-----recommended cognate course for FORENSIC PSYC major.
History 277-----recommended concentration course for CRIMINAL JUSTICE major.
-----recommended perspectives course for LEGAL STUDIES major.
