Signing on to John Jay's Black Board System

Question:Why do we use Blackboard, when we already have a website?

Answer: Blackboard provides a secure and guranteed way for you to get homeworks to me; we don't need to worry about e-mail systems losing your papers or not getting to me by the deadline if we use Black Board.

Getting on to blackboard

A) CREATING AN ACCOUNT WITH THE CUNY PORTAL

If you do not already have an account with the CUNY PORTAL you will have to create an account for yourself.

Although it's easy to understand, there's a walk-through animation to help you out -- see here.

But, if you don't want to watch the animation, here's what you do.

1) Go to http://www.cuny.edu

2) Look to the lower left side of the window and you will notice the Login button. Click on it and you will be directed to the verification and authentication page. You must type in your username and password. If you do not have a proper username and password, you must register for a portal account in order to access CUNY information and Blackboard. Therefore, apply for your portal account now. It will take only a couple of minutes to do it.

(again, go to http://www.cuny.edu, press the Login button, enter your new account name and password)

Our course should appear on your screen. Call me if it does not.

Once you log in successfully, you will be taken to the “My Page” screen. Here you will see "Blackboard" underlined. Click on it.

You will see the following screen that identifies you either as a guest or a student. Click on student.

The next window shows your courses identified in the upper right side of the window.
