Expectations

(for course requirements and a breakdown of each assignment's worth in your semester grade, see here)

GENERAL POLICIES

1)  LATENESS: Get to class on time.  A late arrival of five or more minutes counts as "late"; and two "lates" constitute an absence.  A late arrival of 15 minutes or more will also count as an absence

2)  ATTENDANCE: There are many fewer times when we meet as a class in this course than in other courses. Accordingly, the attendance policy must be somewhat different from other classes; it will broken down by date and type of session.

August 30 - September 27

allowed abscences: 1 -- except in the case of serious illness with documents from your doctor.

October 4 - November 27

If you miss one of your six scheduled volunteer sessions, you must make it up by being assigned to another volunteer session; you can not reschedule more than two volunteer sessions and still pass this course -- except in the case of serious illness with documents from your doctor.

November 27 - Dec 18

If you miss one of your scheduled meetings with Prof. Umbach during this period, you must make it up by scheduling a meeting with him within two weekdays -- except in the case of serious illness with documents from your doctor. You can not reschedule more than one meeting and still pass this course.

3) Late Work No late assignments will be accepted in the class; if you are unable to do an assignment, you will have to make it up by doing the extra-credit assignments scattered throughout the course.

4) Check your e-mail regularly.  I use e-mail to get announcements pertaining to the class out to everyone.  Accordingly, it is your responsibility to read any class related e-mail I distribute within twenty-four hours of my posting time, except on weekends, when you will have forty-eight hours to do so.
