PROJECT STATUS

The project is fast approaching two major milestones. The first will be the award of the architectural design contract to the firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. This firm was selected from a list of respondents to a publicly advertised design competition. The contract is in the fee negotiation process, which should be resolved in the next few weeks. The second major milestone will be the acquisition of the site. This is currently in litigation, and should be completed this year. However, architectural design will proceed independently of site acquisition. Additional funding will be secured for F&E expenses. When all types of building space are included John Jay has roughly 50 Net Assignable Square Feet /Full Time Equivalent. When the project is complete this number will increase to roughly 90 Net Assignable Square Feet/Full Time Equivalent. (All types of building space are defined as offices, classrooms, lecture halls, library and gymnasia. It does not include bathrooms, stairwells and corridors).
