Course Description:
This course is designed for students who are interested in exploring new technologies and applications in the Internet and designing network Webpages. The course is an elective course for students from entire campus, and no prior computer experience is needed. However, students DO need to fulfill certain required credits to be eligible of taking this course. This course will introduce the most important topics of HTML and XHTML and how to develop a Webpage and a Website. Topics include basic HTML and XHTML tags, cascading style sheets, Web tables and forms, using frames and working with multimedia contents. Javascript fundamentals will also be introduced.
Students should have easy access to a computer with any text editor (e.g. Notepad, Emacs) and Internet connection. One of the following software is needed: Windows-Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, Firefox 2.0 or higher, Opera 9.25 or higher, Safari 3.0 or higher; Macintosh-Safari 3.0 or higher. Lecture notes will be posted online at the class website (http://web.jjay.cuny.edu/~pji/math279.html), and are the most important materials of this course.
Course Workload:
Small exercises will be assigned every week along with the lecture notes. Three programming projects will be assigned and graded. Two in-class exams and one final project or final exam will be given through the semester. The course workload and grading scales are specified in the following table. Not finishing ANY of the course work will result in an INC or an F.
